Why I'll stick around Vana'diel for a while

Something happened yesterday in FFXI that made me say "hey, let's stay here for a while."

Just out wandering

I was roaming around a plains base game zone called La Theine Plateau.

The design of this area's terrain has you go out of your way sometimes to reach your destination, but it's not irritating. That's coming from someone who would run diagonally up a mountain in Skyrim instead of going the right way.

It was raining. The rain felt heavy and even obstructed my view a bit. The sound of the rain was realistic. I was thinking about how well the game captured the rain when I saw something strange on the side of the road--giant puffball plants. If you took dandelions in full bloom and scaled them up to six feet in height, this is what you would get. It was a small signifier that Vana'diel could look like earth at times but was a completely different place altogether.

The Giant White Structure

Then I saw it! Under a rainbow, there it was! A super weird tower. Really smooth. So smooth I thought it was a graphics glitch until I realized it was supposed to be like that.

What was it? What were these weird structures with a pink glow around it? I felt so compelled to just play the game and try to find out.

I didn't want to look it up, I didn't need a quick answer. I didn't want to know from an external source.

Let's see where FFXI takes me

I'm just going to continue exploring and see where it leads. I think I'll find out in time.

I usually play FFXIV today because it's reset day, going around and doing errands. It's really relaxing. But today, I'll play FFXI instead. There's so much mystery and I want to unravel it one slow step at a time.
