Rare Mounts in FFXIV: My 5 favorite rare mounts that I own

And how to get them.

There are over 200 mounts available in FFXIV, and they can be acquired through many ways, including:

• Leveling all combat classes to max

• Completing weekly crafter or gatherer deliveries to NPCs

• Beating the final boss of Savage Raid tiers

• Clearing EX Trials

• Collecting a certain amount of Triple Triad cards

• Doing society relations dailies (there are battle, crafting, and gathering dailies)

• For each tank, completing a certain number of instances that meet the achievement requirements

• Hunt currency

• Instanced areas like Bozja and Eureka

And I'm sure I missed a few.

5) Cloud Mallow

Unlocked for purchase by reaching Sworn rank with the Moogles through doing daily society quests. The cost is 200,000 gil for the Cloud Mallow Seeds item that you use to add the mount to your collection.

You must be in the Heavensward expansion or beyond to access these quests, and the quests are limited to three a day, except when gaining a rank, when an additional three become available for that day only. Expect this to take some time.

4) Black Pegasus

I gave in and bought this mount for 9,700,000 gil from the Market Board yesterday. After writing my Material Containers 3.0 post and reminding myself that I didn't get it out of any of the 250 containers that I opened, I just shelled out the gil.

Pro tip: When buying an expensive item from the MB, it's worth traveling to other worlds on your data center to compare prices. This mount was 3 million cheaper on another world than on my home world.

The Black Pegasus does use the same kind of mid models as the other ARR horses, but there's just something about it that appeals to me. It looks great at night.

3) Astrope

Your reward for completing 2000 Mentor Roulettes. What a journey that was! I encountered multiple drunk Red Mages, tanks that ran around the boss like they were playing WoW and dropped tankbusters on the party, the Dark Knight who typed rp material in the chat before each dungeon boss, and those are just a few of the hilarious things I saw.

Anyway, I have stats recorded for all 2000 instances and will be posting about my weird path to the Astrope mount soon.

I've since retired from being a mentor, but I get to keep the mount. The graphics for this mount need an update, but overall, it's a great mount that is also obscenely large and seats two so you can haul a sprout around.

2) Magicked Card

I am actually insane enough to have done all the things you need to get this. The Magicked Card mount is acquired by collecting all Triple Triad cards numbered 1 to 312. Note that it's not 312 cards in total, it's explicitly the ones numbered 1 to 312. (There are other achievements related to the total number of cards collected, though.)

The associated Card in the Hand achievement for this particular collection unlocks the awesome Jack of All Cards title and this Magicked Card mount as a free gift from the Gold Saucer.

1) Sabotender de la Luna

Some people have been playing Wondrous Tales (or Khloe journals) consistently since launch and have never gotten 3 lines! If you do get lucky with them, you can choose a Khloe's Gold Certificate of Recommendation as your reward, which is exchangeable for the Sabotender de la Luna mount as one of the rewards.

You can also purchase the mount with 600 leaves, the currency received from the Faux Commander for completing Unreal Trials. Both Wondrous Tales rewards and Leaves are time-gated with one Khloe journal per week and only 2 clears of the current Unreal Trial. To get this mount, you need luck, time, or skill. Pick two.

Next up, I'm planning on collecting the Shadowbringers and Endwalker EX trial mounts that I'm missing. I'm also considering buying the Air Wheeler A-9 bike for 7,500,000 gil from the vendor in Solution Nine.
